Cue is an iOS app that lets you rehearse the IELTS Speaking test with a live AI examiner. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. Questions: [email protected].
The short version
- No account, no email, no password. You are identified only by a random device identifier stored in your iPhone's Keychain.
- Your voice is processed live, not stored by us. Audio streams to OpenAI's GPT-Live service so the examiner can hear and respond to you. We do not record or keep the audio.
- Transcripts stay on your phone. They are sent once, briefly, to score your session, and are not stored on our servers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell data.
What we process
- Your voice (microphone audio) during a session — streamed to OpenAI (GPT-Live-1) over an encrypted real-time connection so the AI examiner can hear you, respond and interrupt like a real examiner. Not stored by Cue; processed in real time under OpenAI's API data policy.
- Session transcript — stored on your device; sent once to our scoring service (Firebase Cloud Functions → OpenAI) to estimate your band score. Not retained on our servers.
- Device identifier (random UUID) — stored on our servers (Firebase, EU region) to keep your practice-minute balance and prevent abuse of the free minute. Kept until you delete your data.
- Session metadata (start time, duration, mode, score) — stored on our servers for minute accounting and fraud prevention. Kept until you delete your data.
- Practice profile (target band, test date, first language, self-assessment) — stored on your device and sent with each session request to personalise the examiner and the feedback.
- Purchase information — handled by Apple and RevenueCat to unlock and restore practice minutes.
We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, photos or advertising identifiers. We do not use analytics or advertising SDKs.
Third parties
- OpenAI — real-time voice model and transcript scoring, under the OpenAI API data usage policies (API data is not used to train OpenAI models).
- Google Firebase (Cloud Functions, Firestore; europe-west1) — our backend for session setup, minute accounting and scoring.
- Apple (StoreKit) and RevenueCat — in-app purchases and subscriptions.
